Common questions
What is a favicon?
The small icon next to your page title in browser tabs, bookmarks and Google search results on mobile. Phones also use a larger version when someone adds your site to their home screen.
Which files do I need?
favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px inside), a 32 px PNG, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px) for iPhone and 192 and 512 px PNGs for Android. The ZIP includes all of them plus the manifest file.
Why does my logo look blurry as a favicon?
At 16 px, small text and fine lines disappear. Use only the symbol or the first letter of your logo, with strong contrast. The tab preview shows you the real size.
My new favicon is not showing.
Browsers keep favicons in cache for a long time. Open the site in a private window, or add ?v=2 to the end of the icon links in your HTML.
